APD F1 Series: Precision-Regulated High Voltage up to 2 kV

APD F1 Series – regulated 1 W high-voltage converter up to 2 kV

In measurement, analytical and detector systems, maximum high voltage alone does not determine whether a converter is suitable. Regulation accuracy, ripple, temperature stability, electromagnetic compatibility and controlled output programming are equally important. The APD F1 Series combines these characteristics in a compact, six-sided shielded 1 W module.

The output can be programmed from 0 to 100%. An integrated precision reference and an output-voltage monitor support reproducible control and supervision. This makes the series especially suitable for systems in which high voltage forms part of a closed measurement or control process.

Regulation, reference and monitoring

F1 models are available for 5 V and 12 V supplies. Depending on the input version, programming is performed using either 0–2.048 V or 0–5 V. The integrated reference can be used to generate a stable setpoint, while the monitor provides a signal proportional to the output voltage. This reduces the need for additional external circuitry and simplifies calibration and fault diagnosis.

Positive or negative outputs from 100 to 2,000 VDC are available. The standard module is not galvanically isolated, so grounding and the overall system architecture must be planned with particular care.

The nickel-plated metal housing measures 1.1 × 1.75 × 0.5 inches and weighs approximately 1.3 oz. Six-sided shielding and the low-ESR input filter help reduce emissions. APD specifies free-air convection without power derating across the stated operating range.

Typical applications

  • Photomultipliers, detectors and image intensifiers
  • Spectroscopy and optical measurement technology
  • Portable analytical and diagnostic equipment
  • Semiconductor, material and surface measurement systems
  • Industrial sensors and compact test systems
  • Systems requiring an extended temperature range

High temperature stability is particularly valuable when equipment is exposed to changing ambient conditions. Low ripple supports sensitive detector signals. Because the module is not galvanically isolated, the F1 Series should only be used where the grounding concept of the complete system permits it.

Selection and integration guidance

  • Select the input version: 5 V and 12 V models have different permitted input ranges.
  • Match the programming signal: Coordinate the setpoint source, precision reference and monitor.
  • Check polarity and current: The load current depends on the selected output-voltage model.
  • Evaluate the grounding concept: The standard module does not provide galvanic isolation.
  • Plan EMC and layout: Use short return-current paths, suitable filtering and safe high-voltage clearances.

Custom F1 solutions

If a standard version does not meet the required voltage, input, programming, pinout, housing or electrical performance, APD can develop a custom module following a specification review. This is particularly relevant for production equipment where a precisely matched solution can reduce space requirements, external components and qualification effort.

High Voltage (HVPS) Condatas AG supports the technical pre-selection process. For a reliable assessment, specify the required voltage, polarity, load profile, programming signal, monitor requirements, temperature range, isolation, ripple limit, dimensions and expected quantity.
